Course Objectives:
International Economics considers the trade, political and
financial linkages among countries. The first part of this course covers
international trade theories, international factor movements, the effects of
protection policies, and the effects of regional trade agreements. The second
part covers international financial linkages, including balance of payment and
exchange rate determination and macroeconomic coordination. Student must be
familiar with basic microeconomic tools such as demand-supply analysis,
production possibility frontier and the concepts of perfect competition,
monopoly, oligopoly and monopolistic competition, as well as macroeconomic
concepts such as national income accounting, monetary and fiscal policies.
