Course description:

 

This course is designed to provide the basic concepts of organization and managing change that is commonly applied to current management of private and public sectors. The course will examine the nature of change, the forces for change, the strategic planning for change, the models of change, the implementation of change, managing resistance to change, and measuring success and failure of change.

 

Course Objectives:

 

(1) Deepen your understanding of the nature of organizational change

(2)   Increase your knowledge of theoretical frameworks that can be used to think about and analyze change

(3)   Provide some insights into understanding of the processes of organizational change; and

(4)   Sharpen your skills for leading, managing and implementing organizational change.

 

Course approach:

 

This course will be taught by using the presentation and discussion of various topics of change. After conceptual presentation, students will be divided into groups for case discussion and presentation. The single most important requirement in this course is full and active participation in the case discussions. Much of what you learn in the class will be from your fellow students not from me. The goal is to coach you to learn what you need to know about managing change for your organizations.

Palmer, Dunford & Akin (2009). Managing Organizational Change: A multiple perspectives approach 2e. McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc.

 

To gain different perspectives, you will also require to reading various articles of experience-based reflections on the relevant topics.
